SEW CRAZY!

Ok so here we begin another blog! Things have been busy here for a few months now, this is great but I still feel I am falling behind. Everyday is something new and I find another challenge or obstacle to face. This week has been crazy with crochet work on some last minute elf hats that need to be done for a photographer. Also going is photos and website updates daily, I just renewed my website address moments before blogging! Check it out http://www.paradoxcrafts.com/ . It is a work in progress as I have done it all myself with no help...well accept Yola and their templates.

Daycare business is still going on top of it all and I am struggling to do both. Until my equipment is paid for I really cannot go forward to much with the shop. I am trying to finish up projects I have so9 that I can add new stock. The economy is hard for everyone and nobody is ordering right now. All small orders, little profit on those, plus a lot of orders for charity fundraisers which I discount big so they can raise more cash! Well this is a short one today as I have to get crackin' on orders and laundry! Plus kids are napping and will be up soon!

Crazy Busy!

So here we go, this is my second blog post. I am not sure what this blogging thing is all about, but why not keep going right? I am not a quitter Here goes..
I have been nonstop for weeks now, running a daycare during the day and having the shop open at the same time...plus doing orders at night! Whew, did I mention all of the house work too! I noticed a cobweb hanging from the middle of my ceiling today! LOL! I cannot keep up with it all. I am not complaining mind you, however my mind cannot keep up. I have been trying to fill several orders a week and trying to keep up with everything else is killing my sleep habits.
Everyone tells me I am too quick ..".slow down Sam" they say. I try my best to get orders out in less than a week, most of the time with success. Although lately I have had problems with wholesalers being out of stock on items or their shipping taking longer than it should. The worst thing is UPS considers me a residential delivery so they won't deliver to me on the weekends! So I have to wait all weekend sometimes to finish an order, when the rest of it is sitting in my workroom. Another struggle I have found is the location of my equipment. I would love to work some nights real late, however I cannot because of the close proximity to my husband sleeping. Some of my equipment is loud and would keep him up all night. Moving it elsewhere is really not an option at this time as I need a lot of room for my layout and set up for the embroidery. Therefor it has to be where it is for now.
This week has been incredibly long, or should I say it has felt long! A lot of design work has been coming in and quotes being written up. I filled 4 large orders and took 4 orders. I am waiting on supplies to come in and art approvals from customers. Trying to get the shop restocked from a busy week last week has been tough as well. Everything I sold out of the week before has been out of stock from my wholesalers. Well next week is a new week anyway, Hopefully all of my orders come in tomorrow. I have a large hat order to do during the day, no daycare kids so I have all day. Then an all niter to get a big shirt order done.
Breathe Sam, just breathe. My summer is coming to an end and none of my big projects here at home have been done yet. I have a a lot of painting and stuff I wanted to get done before the weather starts to change to cold. I love it anyway. I am hoping that Tuesday night it won't rain so I can stain the back deck....yes I know I probably don't need another thing to do this week, I just love a challenge

Learning something new everyday!

Life is always very hectic for me, however learning something new every day makes it all worth it! I am constantly learning new ways to change and better things in my business and in my life. I love it! I started out thinking, well I will just by some equipment and do some custom quilting. Now through a lot of mistakes and a lot of triumphs, my business is growing faster than I can keep up! Right now I am running two businesses at once, trying to phase out of one totally so I can focus just on the other!
These days I feel like a large scotch sponge! Soaking up information around every turn! YouTube has been a great inspiration from day one. I used it in the beginning to research different types of products and ideas. After months of charts and second guessing, I bit the bullet! Deciding after months to take the big leap and start a new business or better yet expand on what I have always done for a little side money around the holidays. A lot of folks thought I was crazy, some I never even discussed it with till months after I started. I am glad I did it and the way I did it. Now everyday is an adventure. The best part is I still get to be around my family everyday!
As I learn and grow, life is never dull. The hardest thing is knowing when to stop the other business to do just this one. Business is growing very fast but who knows what the fall will bring. I have to be prepared, or should I say I like to be prepared. With the economy the way it is and the winter coming, you just never know what to expect. I looking forward to learning more stuff tomorrow. Heck I just figured out how to make my own blog in just a few short minutes. How am I doing?
